WilcacochaLake & view – Cordillera Negra Half Day

A pleasant uphill hike offering fantastic views of the Cordillera Blanca mountains. We depart Huaraz in the morning in our private transport and drive for 20 minutes up the Cordillera Negra to arrive at Chiwipampa (3050m). We start hiking from here, climbing steadily following a trail that passes through several small highland farming villages where the local people continue to wear the colourful highland clothing and farm in the traditional manner. We pass by many fields of wheat, barley, beans and quinoa. After two hours hiking we come to the pretty lake Wilcacocha at 3700m where we usually see a lot of Andean ducks and sometimes also geese. The highlight of the hike is the amazing views that we have across to the length of Cordillera Blanca mountains directly opposite us across the Callejon de Huaylas valley. Following a picnic lunch we descend for about half an hour where we meet our vehicle and drive back to Huaraz
