Looking for a challenging short climb or an acclimatisation peak away from busier Pisco? Yanapaccha (5460m) sits close to Pisco in the Llanganuco Valley but is far less frequented.
It is a moderately difficult climb with some steep sections and a final slope of up to 65° to the summit — an ideal practice peak for advancing climbers and superb preparation for technical or 6000m peaks.

Yanapaccha is not for first-time climbers but is ideal for novices who have had instruction and for experienced climbers practising technique. The climb goes high fast — from Huaraz (3090m) to a 5000m camp in a day — so you must already be well acclimatised.

Suitability & Instruction Days
Yanapaccha is not suitable for first-time climbers. A 3 or 4 day option adds instruction day(s) at Morena Camp for ice climbing and rescue practice before the summit.
Acclimatisation
This climb goes high very fast — Huaraz (3090m) to a 5000m camp on day one — so you must already be well acclimatised. We recommend a trek of at least 4 to 6 days beforehand.
Carrying Gear
We do not use donkeys on Yanapaccha. You carry your own personal and climbing gear and sleeping kit; porters carry tents, food, cooking equipment and rope.

You carry all your gear up to camp.
A 2½ hour drive to Cebollapampa (3850m) and on up the zig-zag road to the “Curva 45km” (4580m) below the Portachuelo pass. From here we carry our packs on a faint trail over grass and moraine for 3 to 3½ hours to Morena Camp (5000m).
