Llaca Valley & Ranrapalca Glacier
About this day
Few places in the Cordillera Blanca put you this close to the ice. From the end of the road we walk up about an hour and a half through a narrow valley of impressive rock walls — popular with climbers — to a glacial lake at 4460m, with the glacier of Ranrapalca (6162m) spilling down to its head. After a picnic lunch we drop back down past Llaca Lake and return to Huaraz through the Cojup valley, a different way out through the villages of Llupa and Unchus.

Huaraz → road's end in the Llaca valley (4,250 m), where the walk starts.

Road's end → rock walls → glacial lake (4,460 m), about 1.5 hours, then down to Llaca lake.
