How we look after your data

This policy explains what personal data Peruvian Andes Adventures collects through this website and when you book a trip with us, why we need it, and what you can do about it.

Who we are

Peruvian Andes Adventures is the trading name of PERUVIAN TREKS S.R.L. (RUC 20601871891), Jr. José Olaya 532, Huaraz, Ancash, Peru. We decide how your data is used and we answer for it. For anything about your data, write to info@peruvianandes.com.

When you visit the website

Our web server records technical data about each visit: your IP address, the page you asked for, the date and time, and your browser type. We need this to deliver the pages and to protect the site against abuse, and we keep it only as long as that purpose requires. The site is hosted on a server we rent from the provider Elastika.

The website itself sets no cookies of its own. Two things may store or send data from your browser:

Your consent choice. When you accept or decline analytics, your browser stores that choice so we do not ask again on every page. You can change it at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer.

Google Analytics, only if you accept. If you click Accept, we use Google Analytics through Google Tag Manager to count visits and learn which pages people read. Google then stores cookies in your browser and receives data such as the pages you view, your device and your approximate location. If you decline, Google Analytics does not run and nothing is sent. Google Analytics is provided by Google Ireland Limited and Google LLC, and the data may be processed in the United States. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time from the footer link.

TripAdvisor reviews. Some pages show our TripAdvisor reviews through a widget from Elfsight. When those pages load, your browser connects to Elfsight's servers, which receive your IP address, and the widget saves a small item in your browser to remember how it was displayed. We use it to show you independent reviews from past travellers, which is our legitimate interest. Elfsight's own privacy policy applies to the data it receives.

When you write to us

If you email us or message us on WhatsApp, we receive what you send: usually your name, your contact details, your travel dates, the size of your group and the trips you are interested in. We use it to answer you and to prepare a proposal, which is a step you ask us to take before a contract. Our email is handled by our email hosting provider. WhatsApp is run by Meta, and its own privacy policy applies to messages you send through it.

When you book a trip

To organise your trek or climb, we ask you to fill in three short forms: your personal details (name, address, passport details, dietary needs and any medical notes), your emergency contacts, and your travel insurance. We need them to run the trip safely, to obtain the permits it requires and to act in an emergency. The legal basis is the contract you make with us.

Medical information is especially sensitive. We only ask for it so that your guides can keep you safe in the mountains, we only use it for that, and we only share it with the people who will be with you on the trip. By sending it to us you give your explicit consent for that use, and you can choose not to send it.

We share your booking data only with the people who make your trip happen (guides, cooks, drivers, porters, arrieros and lodges) and with public authorities when the law requires it, for example for park entry. We do not sell your data and we do not use it for advertising.

Payments are made by bank transfer or in person in Huaraz, and are handled by the banks involved.

Sending your data to Peru

We are based in Peru, so the data you send us is processed in Peru. Peru does not have an adequacy decision from the European Union. When you are in the EU or Switzerland, we transfer your data to Peru because it is necessary to arrange the trip you asked for.

How long we keep it

We keep your messages and booking data for as long as we need them to answer you and to run your trip, and afterwards only as long as Peruvian tax and accounting law requires. Then we delete them.

Your rights

You can ask us at any time for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to limit how we use it, to receive it in a portable format, or to stop using it. You can withdraw your consent to analytics from the footer link and your consent to medical notes by writing to us. Under Peruvian law these are your rights of access, rectification, cancellation and opposition. Write to info@peruvianandes.com and we will answer within the time the law sets.

If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to the Autoridad Nacional de Protección de Datos Personales in Peru, to the data protection authority of the country where you live in the EU, or, in Switzerland, to the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will publish the new version here with its date.
