About this day
Few places in the Cordillera Blanca bring you this close to the ice. From the end of the road, we hike about an hour and a half up a narrow valley flanked by impressive rock walls to reach a glacial lake at 4,460 m, where the Ranrapalca glacier (6,162 m) spills down to its head. After a picnic lunch, we walk 10 minutes down from Llaca Lake to our car and return to Huaraz through the Cojup Valley, taking a different route back through the villages of Llupa and Unchus.

Huaraz → road's end (direct road, or the separate winding access via Llupa & Unchus) → rock walls, then up between the rocks to the car park.
