Cordillera Blanca Views & Puya Raymondi

We follow a paved road into the dry Cordillera Negra to the pass of Punta Callan at 4225m, where nearly the whole snow chain of the Cordillera Blanca lines up across the valley, every high summit in view. Driving on past farmland we reach Llacguawasi and the astonishing sight of thousands of Puya Raimondi, some throwing up their towering flower spikes across the hillside. They grow right by the road, so there is no need to walk far — though you can take a longer hillside hike if you wish. Picnic lunch before the return.
