About this day
One of the most popular day hikes near Huaraz, and a strenuous one. We drive to Pitec at 3850m through the farming hamlets of Unchus and Llupa, then climb steadily up a ridge to Laguna Churup — a turquoise lake at 4450m below Nevado Churup. The final hundred metres scramble up a steep rock gully that some find awkward. Five to six hours up and back from Pitec.
