About this day
An easy 7 km walk on a good path from Huaraz to the Wilcahuaín archaeological site, built by the Wari Empire between roughly 600 and 900 AD. The main three-storey building once held the mummies of Wari ancestors; it is roofed with massive stone slabs and laced with a careful system of ventilation ducts. You come away wondering how they cut and placed those slabs so precisely without a single modern tool. We walk up and take a car back to Huaraz.
