When to Come & the Best Seasons
The Peruvian Andes catch weather from two directions at once — the Pacific on one side, the jungle on the other — so the year has traditionally split into a "dry" season and a "wet" one.
The most settled weather usually runs from May to September, with quieter shoulder weeks in mid-April and from late September into October. That said, a changing climate has blurred the old lines: you can now get clear spells deep in the rainy months and the odd grey, wet day in what used to be the driest weeks of June, July and August. June to August is busiest on the trails; May and September are quieter, and May is lovely — everything still green from the rains and the alpine flowers in bloom.
For climbers: 5,000m and non-technical peaks are at their best from May to September. The 6,000m and more technical peaks generally only come into safe condition from mid-June to August, with the hardest lines often not ready until early July.
