Half Day Hike – Wilcahuain Ruins

The Wilcahuain archaeological site is an easy7 km walk on a good path from Huaraz. The ruins date to about 600 to 900 AD and the Wari Empire. The main 3 – story building housed the mummies of the Wari ancestors. The building is roofed with massive stone slabs and contains a complicated system of ventilation ducts. You will marvel at how they managed to so accurately construct the building and place the massive stone slabs without the aid of modern technology.
