Admiring Cordillera Blanca Mountains from Punta Callan
We start the day by following a new paved road into the dry mountain range of the Cordillera Negra to arrive at the top of the pass Punta Callan at 4225m. From the pass there are amazing views of almost the entire length of the snow capped Cordillera Blanca mountain range, and you can see all the highest mountains in the chain, divided by narrow steep walled valleys.
We then continue driving through passing by farmland before arriving at Llacguawasi where we are amazed by the sight of thousands of Puya Raymondi plants, some in flower with their towering flower spikes scarred across the hillside.
The plants grow right to the side of the road so we do not need to walk far to admire these unique plants unique to only these small pockets in the Peruvian Andes, or if you want you can take a long hike across the hillside. We enjoy a picnic lunch before returning to Huaraz.
