Isabel & Carl from the USA said: We (especially Carl) enjoyed your man in Lima, Paul. He diligently waited for our delayed flight and had a sign at the arrival area. Carl enjoyed chatting with him about a variety of topics. We also enjoyed the Gold museum and wished we had more time to do so. LIMA CITY TOURS In Lima there existed several different pre-Columbian cultures dating back thousands of years. Lima was also part of the Inca Empire until seized by the Spaniard Francisco Pizarro in 1535 when it was converted into the Spanish capital of Peru. The guided Lima City Tours take in some the various different historical periods of Lima’s history: Pre-Hispanic, Colonial and Contemporary HALF DAY LIMA CITY TOURDuration: 4 hours This excursion offers the best combination of the different attractions in Lima and its three historical periods: Pre-Hispanic, Colonial and Contemporary. ANCESTRAL LIMA We visit the ruins of the ancient site of Huaca Pucllana. Indigenous peoples started building Huaca Pucllana in 400 A.D.—nine centuries before the Incas started setting stones at mighty Machu Picchu. Those earliest residents gathered, traded, made community decisions, worshiped and sacrificed women and children at Huaca Pucllana for 300 years. They abandoned the site when the Wari empire conquered the area in 700 A.D., and built a cemetery for its elite on top of the pyramid. The Incas moved in some three centuries later. We will have a panoramic view of this magnificent ceremonial and administrative centre which was considered by the Incas a holy village. We will learn about the life and rituals of its ancient inhabitants and admire its typical pyramidal building, very characteristic of sacred pre-Hispanic edifications which were adored in the coast of Perú. COLONIAL LIMA The Peruvian Viceroyalty was the most important in the Spanish Empire and Lima was its capital. The highlights of its historical centre are its architecture and the urban design of the city, found in the old streets filled with colonial houses adorned with Moorish-style balconies , magnificent Spanish architecturally designed government buildings, cathedrals, convents and plazas. Our tour takes in the most spectacular of these buildings, including the central plaza of Lima – the Plaza Del Armas, The Government Palace, Cathedral and the Convent of Saint Francis which displays the biggest collection of religious art in Americas. We go deep underground to the Lima burial crypts known as the Catacombes where the citizens of Lima during colonial times were laid to rest by the monks of the Convent of Saint Francis.
